skip to content menu programs philosophy about gallery projects leadership news contact we are independent | therapeutic | democratic | progressive lihigh school is an approved independent school where students work on their skills and the things they love with people who support them every step of the way. our programs contact us where we are located in poultney, vermont most of our students come from towns in rutland & bennington counties, but we welcome students from anywhere in vermont. what we do our programs progressive program progressive program designed for students to become independently driven, self-confident, and capable of pursuing their passions, the progressive program serves students of all abilities ages 11-22. social entrepreneurial social entrepreneurial turn your education into a kinder and gentler form of abc’s “shark tank.” you’ll investigate community problems, create entrepreneurial solutions, pitch your ideas to investors, and start your own business. culinary arts culinary arts aspiring chefs (ages 11-22) develop their independence, their professionalism, and their skills, readying them for a career in the culinary arts. outdoor leadership outdoor leadership real learning doesn’t require a classroom. take your learning to the great outdoors and develop leadership skills for the 21st century. what we believe in philosophy we build individualized learning plans around the passions, interests, and special needs of each student to create healthy, confident learners who can engage with their community. passion to inspire life-long learning, we ground each student’s education in their passion and interests, giving them the tools to carve their own path. growth a supportive school puts a student’s social and emotional growth ahead of all else, creating healthy roots for learning. individuality an effective curriculum is molded to fit the strengths and weaknesses of the individual, to challenge and inspire, not to standardize. involvement real-world experiences and local involvement fosters growth in ways that the classroom cannot. who we are about us our history founded in 2006, lihigh school has grown from a small handful of students with just a few staff to a full-fledged democratically run institution with almost thirty students, more than a dozen staff, four distinct programs, and a student-driven cafe. we also grew to occupy three different buildings in poultney and a seven-acre wooded campus with a private pond in wells. if that’s what we did in our first ten years, we can’t wait to see what the next decade will bring!
